York Scouts Snowball Plantation Adventure Trail Funds The Joy

A SIGNIFICANT donation of hundreds of pounds helped kick off a group’s fundraiser in York.

York Boy Scouts received funding that became a major donation for the eventual construction of an adventure trail at the Snowball Plantation in Stockton on the Forest.

The £ 1,000 donation was awarded by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as part of their Building Futures initiative, which aims to support community groups helping those under the age of 18.

Scout volunteer Nigel White said, “Our activity center is located in 17 acres of mature forest.

“It includes a 39-bed lodge, various campsites, an activity building and an outdoor arena, and is used by more than 9,000 young people each year.

As part of our 50th anniversary, we were looking to improve our facilities to provide more opportunities for young people to improve their well-being and develop their skills and confidence.

“We have received a lot of requests for young people to be active outdoors, especially since the pandemic lockdowns.

The trail was designed to complement our woodland and aims to attract and challenge all ages, ages four and up. The donation from Persimmon Homes is a big boost as we work towards our fundraising goal of £ 10,000 for this project. We are now looking for sponsors to help us with this project and other development plans.

Building Futures plans to donate £ 1million as part of its initiative and has already donated £ 128,000 to good causes across the UK.

Scott Waters, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Our Building Futures initiative aims to support the younger generations, and York Scouts provide the perfect environment to stimulate their sense of adventure.

The program aims to help young people in one of three different categories, education and the arts, health and sport, as they seek to make a difference or have an impact in their society.

So far there has already been a donation of £ 4,000 in the Yorkshire region.
