Coronation Street star to ‘quit’ ITV soap after 26 years

Cobblestone legend David Neilson, who plays fan favorite Roy Cropper, could leave Weatherfield behind as his character struggles to cope with the aftermath of the soap opera’s special Halloween episodes.

Roy fights his conscience after knowing it was Abi’s gun that killed Natasha and hid what he knew from the police.

Roy, who runs Roy’s Rolls, has been linked with a release from the series since his on-screen wife Hayley died of cancer a few years ago.

The character hands over his estate to his niece Nina before revealing that he is taking up a post as chief in South America.

Other characters are begging him to stay but it is not yet clear if he will take their advice.

David Neilson has portrayed Roy Cropper since 1995 and has been a constant figure in the soap ever since.

The actor enjoyed a successful career as an odd-job actor before his role in Corries and even starred in the BBC soap opera Eastenders in the early ’90s.

Coronation Street continues to air Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

You can watch the show on ITV and it is available to stream on ITV Hub.
